In 1977, my Uncle Aaron and Aunt Cherron, along with their dad—my Papa Joe—started Settlers Jerky with nothing more than a small oven, a small facility in Monrovia, and a big dream. Together, they built a legacy of making jerky that raised the bar for flavor and quality.
For me, jerky has always been more than just a snack. Since I was in diapers, it’s been a part of daily life. By high school, I was selling bags of jerky out of my backpack, excited to share the taste that shaped my childhood. Summers meant working at the plant, sneaking jerky fresh from the oven, and learning every step of the process—from trimming raw cuts to seasoning, cooking, weighing, and sealing each bag.
Now, as the third generation, I’m proud to carry on what my family started. Settlers Jerky isn’t like anything you’ve had before. Each bite is packed with decades of tradition, care, and flavor. It’s not just jerky—it’s part of my family’s story.
